Spikeball Goes Green
Trying To Do Our Part
Green. Sustainable. Global Warming. Recycle. Earth. Bad marketing jargon? Perhaps. Serious stuff? Absolutely. We at Spikeball are trying to do our part to minimize our environmental impact. Yes, we know our product is made of plastic which is not the most earth friendly product. That's not stopping us from making other parts of the business a little more eco friendly. We are trying to mitigate our overall sandy eco footprint and here is what we are starting with.
Green Powered Powered, Woman Owned Web Host
Our web hosting company, Acornhost, purchases Green Certificates monthly for the amount of energy that is used to run the servers, office equipment, lights, etc.
Organic Clothing
All clothing (shirts, hats and visors) that we have are made with organic cotton. If you're not aware, organic cotton means the cotton was grown without pesticides. I read somewhere that 25% of the world's pesticides are used for cotton. Not Spikeball cotton.
“1% for the Planet” Membership
Maybe you noticed the 1% for the Planet logo on our homepage! This is a group started by the founder of Patagonia. Member companies agree to donate 1% of their annual sales to environmental related non–profits. Other members: Brushfire Records (Jack Johnson's label), New Belgium Brewery (Fat Tire ), Volcom, Clif Bar, and tons more.
Paper
We are trying to make sure all paper used (business cards, flyers, etc ) is made with recycled paper and printed with vegetable inks. Here's a small victory— we found a printer that had a TON of excess poster paper that he couldn't sell and was going to trash. Needing posters we were happy to take them off his hands.
Help a brother out.
We need ideas on how we can become even better. Send me a note if you have some ideas chris@spikeball.com
